What are the common mistakes in PCB design work?

ByGrace May 14, 2024June 13, 2024

PCB design is a very critical part of electronic product manufacturing. Its quality is directly related to the performance and stability of the entire product. However, in the process of designing PCB, many people will make some common mistakes. If these mistakes cannot be corrected in time, they will greatly affect the product quality. This article will analyze these mistakes that are often made during the PCB design process, and hope to provide you with some helpful suggestions.

The six most common mistakes in PCB design

Mistake 1: Unreasonable PCB size design

When designing a PCB, you must first determine the size of the PCB. If the PCB size design is unreasonable, it will not only increase the PCB manufacturing cost, but also affect the stability and reliability of the circuit. Therefore, when designing the PCB size, we must make a reasonable design based on the actual situation of the electronic product to avoid wasting circuit space.

Mistake 2: PCB lines are in chaos

In terms of PCB circuit design, a common mistake that many people make is confusing the circuit, which not only increases the difficulty of wiring, but also makes the performance of the PCB unstable. Therefore, when designing PCB circuits, you must conduct wiring according to the circuit schematic diagram and try to make the circuit as simple and clear as possible.

Mistake 3: Failure to fully consider electromagnetic compatibility

In PCB design, electromagnetic compatibility is a very critical issue. If the PCB design does not meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements, it will cause electromagnetic interference and affect the performance and stability of the circuit. Therefore, during the PCB design process, electromagnetic compatibility must be fully considered, and the circuit protection of the PCB should be reasonably carried out to reduce the impact of electromagnetic interference and ensure the normal operation of the product.

Mistake 4: Failure to conduct strict rule checks

Before proceeding with PCB design, strict rule checks must be carried out. The inspection content includes PCB size, circuit routing, electromagnetic compatibility, etc. Only after passing the rule check can subsequent PCB design work be carried out. Otherwise, various problems may occur in subsequent work, affecting the quality of the entire electronic product.

Mistake 5: Using inappropriate PCB materials

In the PCB design process, choosing the appropriate PCB material is also very critical. Using unsuitable PCB materials can affect the performance and stability of the PCB, or even cause the entire electronic product to fail to function properly. Therefore, when designing PCB, be sure to choose PCB materials that meet the requirements to ensure the normal operation of the circuit.

Mistake 6: Not Conducting Enough Testing and Verification

After the PCB design is completed, the PCB must be adequately tested and verified. Only after passing the test and verification can the PCB be used in actual electronic products. Otherwise, the circuit performance may be unstable or even unable to operate normally due to some problems left in the design process.
In short, during the PCB design process, you must pay attention to the above common mistakes, discover and correct them in time. Only in this way can electronic products with high stability and excellent performance be manufactured while ensuring the quality of PCBs.
