Analysis of the causes of PCB board cracking

PCB board cracking will affect the normal operation of the circuit, and it is also a common problem in PCB production. In this article, the editor of Jieduobang will discuss with you what are the causes of PCB board cracking?

1.Causes of PCB board cracking

(1)Poor materials

    The substrate material used in the production of PCB circuit boards is not good, or the thermal expansion coefficient of the substrate material does not match that of the welding material, and stress is generated during thermal expansion and contraction, which will cause PCB board cracking.

    (2)Welding problems

      If the temperature is too high or the duration is too long during the welding process of PCB, the substrate material will expand, causing the PCB board to crack.

      (3)Mechanical stress

        During the manufacturing and use of electronic products, due to mechanical vibration or stress, the circuits on the PCB may deform or break, causing the PCB board to crack.

        (4)Environmental impact

          When the environment

          temperature changes greatly, the circuits and materials on the PCB will expand and contract, thus generating stress and causing the PCB board to crack; the circuits on the PCB are easily corroded by moisture in a high humidity environment, which will also cause the PCB board to crack.

          2.Solutions to PCB board cracking

          • 1.During the manufacturing process of the PCB, select substrate materials with good quality and uniform thickness;
          • 2.During the welding process, control the temperature and time, avoid excessive temperature and excessive welding time, so as to reduce the expansion of the substrate material and the generation of stress.
          • 3.Use methods such as heat dissipation design and humidity control to maintain a suitable working environment.
          • 4.Increase the thickness of the PCB, increase the support points or use a more solid support structure
          • 5.Use visual inspection, X-ray detection, infrared detection and other methods to ensure the integrity and reliability of the circuit.
