What is the role of copper plating in PCB design?

PCB copper plating is to fill the idle space in the non-wiring area on the PCB with solid copper. The significance of copper plating is to reduce the ground impedance, improve anti-interference ability, and reduce the loop area. Copper plating in PCB design is a very important part of circuit board design.

Why do PCBs need copper plating?

  1. EMC. For large areas of ground or power copper plating, it will play a shielding role. Some special grounds, such as PGND, play a protective role.
  2. PCB process requirements. Generally, in order to ensure the electroplating effect or lamination without deformation, copper plating is applied to PCB layers with less wiring.
  3. Signal integrity requirements, give high-frequency digital signals a complete return path, and reduce the wiring of the DC network. Of course, there are also heat dissipation, special device installation requires copper plating and other reasons.

What is the role of copper plating in PCB design?

  1. PCB copper plating can improve the conductivity of the circuit board. Since copper has good conductivity, the use of copper foil for covering during the manufacturing process of printed circuit boards can greatly improve the conductivity of the circuit board. This ensures that the connection between the components is more stable and reliable.
  2. PCB copper plating can also enhance the mechanical strength and stability of the printed circuit board. Since the copper foil itself has high mechanical strength and stability, it can effectively prevent the printed circuit board from being damaged or deformed by the external environment during use.
  3. PCB copper plating can also protect the circuit board from oxidation or corrosion. Since copper foil has good corrosion resistance, coating a layer of copper foil on the surface of the circuit board can effectively protect the circuit board from oxidation or corrosion. This can extend the service life of the circuit board and ensure the stability and reliability of the circuit board during use.
