PCB simulation analysis solution
As PCB high-speed signal design becomes more and more common, the design of electronic circuits faces more and more challenges such as signal integrity, power integrity, heat, and electromagnetic compatibility. Introducing simulation verification methods in design will greatly improve product development efficiency, design correctness, and achieve the fastest product launch to market. MentorGraphic’s HyperLynx software is a widely used PCB design simulation tool in the industry, and supports simulation analysis of mainstream EDA software including Cadence and Altium.
HyperLynx includes pre-simulation environment (LineSim), post-simulation environment (BoardSim) and multi-board analysis functions, which can help designers perform comprehensive simulation analysis on MHz~GHz PCB networks, eliminate design risks, and improve design success rate. HyperLynx functional modules include:
1.HyperLynx Signal Integrity (Signal Integrity Analysis)
HyperLynx SI is divided into pre-simulation and post-simulation, with a frequency coverage of MHz~GHz.
Pre-simulation can simulate the schematic high-speed signal before PCB routing, analyze the signal transmission effect under the virtual stacking structure and routing parameters, and optimize the PCB stacking structure, routing impedance and high-speed design rules (line width/line length/spacing, etc.).
Post-simulation can import PCB design files, extract stacking structure and stacking physical parameters, calculate transmission line characteristic impedance, and perform signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility tests.
Main features:
● Support impedance planning and calculation of various transmission lines
● Support reflection/crosstalk/loss/via effect and EMC analysis
● Provide serial, parallel and differential matching solutions for high-speed networks through matching wizard
● Support multi-board analysis, and can analyze reflection, crosstalk and loss of signals transmitted between boards
● Provide multiple design packages such as DDR/DDRII/USB/SATA/PCIX

2.HyperLynx Power Integrity
HyperLynx PI includes pre-simulation and post-simulation power integrity analysis functions, including DC voltage drop analysis, AC decoupling analysis, plane noise analysis and model extraction.
Main features:
● Identify areas with excessive current density on PCB boards
● Analyze the distributed impedance of the power supply system at different points on the board
● Analyze the different effects of different capacitor placement, installation methods, and stacking settings
● Simulate the noise transmitted from IC power supply pins and vias to the entire board
● Create highly accurate via models that include bypass and power plane effects
● Support all mainstream PCB design tools

3.HyperLynx DRC (Design Rule Check)
HyperLynx DRC is a design rule checking tool that supports complex design rule verification, such as EMI/EMC, routing cross-reference plane changes, shielding layer and via checks, quickly locates potential problems on the circuit board, and avoids errors such as EMI/EMC, SI or PI.

4.HyperLynx 3D EM (3D Electromagnetic Field Simulation)
HyperLynx 3D EM is an electromagnetic field simulation optimization tool for 3D structures. It can verify the electromagnetic design of the circuit board and is used for simulation verification of PCB board level, packaging, radio frequency circuit (RFIC), microwave circuit (MMIC) and antenna design.

Main features:
● Provides a microstrip model library, such as transmission lines, branch structures, corners, etc.
● Supports antenna analysis, array antenna analysis, microwave devices, monolithic microwave integrated circuits MMIC, radio frequency integrated circuits RFIC, low temperature ceramic co-fired LTCC, high temperature superconductors HTS, etc.
5.HyperLynx Analog (hybrid circuit simulation verification)
HyperLynx Analog provides analog hybrid circuit simulation analysis functions, which can reduce data errors caused by the transfer of designs in different tools; it can reduce the occurrence of design problems and effectively improve design reliability.
6.HyperLynxThrmal (board-level thermal simulation)
HyperLynx Thermal is used for PCB board-level thermal analysis. It uses temperature curves, gradients, and over-temperature diagrams to help designers more effectively solve circuit board and device overheating problems during the design process.
